Obituary from "The Rockford Press," Rockford, OH, Friday, February 12, 1909:
"THE GRIM REAPER.
"Takes from Earthly Life Mrs. Jesse King While Visiting at St. George, Ga.
"The funeral of Mrs. Jesse King, who died at St. George, Ga., Friday night, was held from the U.B. Church here, Monday afternoon. The family, relatives and a host of neighbors and friends were present at these last rites. Rev. C.O. Callender officiated. The body was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
"Last fall Mr. and Mrs. King joined the Mercer county colony at St. George, hoping that the milder climate of the south would help Mrs. King, whose health was not the best. She improved greatly and with her husband, visited many southern points of beauty and interest. Letters came to her children telling of her improved health, and the message announcing her death was a shock to the community. It was a sad home coming for her children and relatives.
"A few hours before her death, she called her husband to her bedside and said, 'I am going home. I send my love to all my neighbors; be good to our children, stay with them and we will soon meet again.' These were her last words.
"Delia Putman was born September 30th, 1852, and departed this life at St. George, Ga., February 5th, 1909, aged 56 years, 4 months and 5 days. On December 31, 1870, she was united in marriage to Jesse King. To this union were born three sons, who with the bereaved husband, mourn the loss of mother and wife. [She and Jesse also had twin girls Susan Katherine and Martha Jane who died at birth in 1879.] The neighborhood has taken from it a woman who enjoyed the respect and love of all who knew her.
"The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of their host of friends."
