Johann Peter Leonhard, AKA Peter Lenhart, was the son of Johan Christopffel Leonhard and Anna Eva Kesler. He married Maria Margaretha "Margaret" ___.

From the Kirchenbuch, 1654-1798 Evangelisch-Reformierte Kirche Horn (Kreis Simmern), May 27, 1708, is found a listing of the baptism of "Joh. Peter Leonhard." Parents are from Chumb Monastery. Sponsors of the event were Johann Peter Moster and Johannes Peter Leonhardt [his uncle], legitimate son of Joh. Velten Leonhard of Benssweiler, and others. His birth town, Horn, is just south of where the Mosel River joins the Rhine. Today there is a village named Klosterkumbd, located about 4 miles north of Simmern, the county seat. The Chumd Nunnery (Kloster-kumbd) has been in ruins since the 18th century.

Peter's son Jacob was born in Zweibrucken. Peter, wife Margareta, sons Jacob ad Wilheim (and other children) arrived in Philadelphia, PA by the ship "Two Brothers," captained by Thomas Arnot, on September 15, 1748. The ship containing upward of 300 Palatine passengers traveled from Rotterdam, Holland, and then docked in Portsmouth, England before crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

The Lenharts first settled in Berks Co., PA, and in 1749 recorded a patent for property in Greenwich Twp. Peter conveyed this land to son Jacob in 1771, and it is now known as the town of Lenhartsville. Two landmarks remain of the period in which they had lived - a building in the western part of of the borough, erected in 1812, and the old church where the lenharts worshipped. Peter took the rest of his family to Dover Township, York Co. He helped to build the Salem Union Lutheran Church, later known as Strayer's Church.

Peter's will, dated March 21, 1774, probated April 8, 1774, is found in Will Book C, p 214-216, York Co., PA.
