Born Jan. 24, 1921, in Littleton to Paul and Anna Young Applegate, he married Kathleen Scheifele. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Jane Eittreim of Phoenix; one son, Jack Trent of the state of Washington; one sister, Pauline Heaton of Illinois; and two brothers, Richard of Converse, Texas, and Donald of Louisiana.
A graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology, he was a mechanical engineer at Caterpillar Inc. for 40 years.
A World War II Marine Corps veteran, he was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria, and was a 32nd-degree mason. He also was a member of the Phoenix Zoo and Wilson Seniors Golf Group in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Cremation will be accorded.
