STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former Staten Islander James Joseph Belsito, 80, of Casselberry, Fla., a retired Consolidated Edison worker, U.S. Army veteran and family man, died Friday in Florida Hospital, Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The Brooklyn native moved to Prince's Bay in the early 1970s. He relocated to Florida in 1998.

Mr. Belsito served in the U.S. Army.

He worked for 35 years for Con Edison as a substation operations manager in the Brooklyn division, and was an active member of the Con Edison retirees club.

In Florida, Mr. Belsito worked as a safari driver at Walt Disney's Animal Kingdom for 10 years. He retired again in 2009 and was a member of the Disney Golden Ears club.

He enjoyed building and fixing things.

"He was a great man, and he loved spending time with his family," said his son-in-law, Todd Heaney. "He always treated me as if I were his own son."

Mr. Belsito's first wife, Rita, died in 1987.

Surviving are his wife of 26 years, the former Madeline Cuomo; his daughter, Lisa Heaney; his brothers, Frank and John, and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday from the Collison Family Funeral Home, Winter Park, Fla., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Magdalen R.C. Church, Altamonte Springs. Burial will follow in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
