Added gender. 1) Original bio content as entered/written by the creator of the memorial is below the divider.~Joshua was the son of Steven Leroy and Sue-Ellen Gattis Cates and was was home-schooled in Arlington. In 2003, he and his family moved to Wetumka, Okla., where he finished high school and began working as a mechanic. He went to boot camp at MCRD San Diego, Calif., and graduated Sept. 9, 2005. He next attended automotive organizational maintenance course at Camp Lejune, N.C., where he graduated top of his class in February 2006 with a grade point average of 99.86. He also set a new school record for a standardized test involving the diagnosis and repair of an electrical problem on a HUMMV. For this, he received a Meritorious Mast and a promotion to Lance Corporal. He loved the Lord and was very dedicated to missions and was involved in missionary support in areas such as auto repair. While preparing for deployment to Iraq, he lost his life in an accident. Survivors are his parents, Steven and Sue-Ellen Cates; grandmothers, Marvelle Gattis and Corkey Cates.
