Josiah settled in Marshall County in 1833 the year after the Blackhawk Indian War was over. He was amongst the earliest settlers in Marshall County.
Josiah was a farmer and between 1835-39 acquired 240 acres of land from the Government.
On 5 Sep 1833 he married Courtney Forbes the daughter of Caleb & Mary (Curling) Forbes.
The couple had 7 children, Caleb, Benjamin, Van Buren, Charles, Mary, Sarah & Margaret (Curran). (they are all buried in this cemetery)
