William Kane Ottmann, Sr., formerly of Augusta, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at home in Martinez, Calif., surrounded by his loved ones.Born on May 1, 1928 in New York City to Gail Kane and Henry Iden Ottmann, the family eventually settled on Lake Cobbosseeconte, Manchester, Maine. Bill was enrolled in local schools including Lincoln and St.Mary's elementary schools, eventually going on to boarding school at LaSalle Military Academy in Long Island, NY, and college at the University of Maine, Orono, where he lettered in football for three years. Bill married Marie Teresa Gingras of Augusta, in 1951. He began his career in New York City with Royal Insurance Company, and later returned to Augusta and continued his career at Macomber, Farr & Whitten Insurance Company. Bill and his former wife Terry, eventually, co-founded Ottmann & Company Real Estate, which served the Central Maine area for 15 years. In 1980, Bill moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and continued a successful real estate career as a broker working for Coldwell Banker in Orinda, Calif.. In 1992, he married Donna Gravitt and remained living in California until his death. Bill is survived by his wife Donna Gravitt, his former wife Marie T. Ottmann of Hallowell, Maine; his six children, Constance Ottmann of Hallowel, Judith Ottmann and her husband Allen Ginsberg of Belfast, Janet Ottmann and her husband James Ogilville of Irvington, NY, Bill Ottmann, Jr. of Southern Pines, NC, Gigi Ottmann-Deeves and her husband Rob of Chelsea, and John (Jake) Ottmann and his wife Lauryn of Brooklyn, NY, stepdaughters Kyra Gravitt of Ft. Meyers, Fla., and Kary Stowe of San Leandro, Calif.; grandchildren Caroline Ginsberg, Henry Ginsberg, Jack Liakas, Suzannah Deeves, Olivia Deeves, Amelia Loredo, Chi Ogilvie, Nina Ogilvie, Iden Ottmann, Luella Ottmann; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life reception at the Augusta Country Club on Friday, August 28, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m.
