The Schlosser's or Union Cchurch at Neffs, Lutheran Church, Unionville, North Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co., PA records indicate that he was baptised on September 15, 1799. His sponsors were Christina and Valentine Fassolt. Between 1825 and 1830, Valentine and Rachel moved from Pennsylvania to Varick Twp., Seneca Co., New York, three miles north of Waterloo. By the 1850 census, Valentine, a shoemaker, had moved with his family to Harrisville, Spencer Twp., Medina, Co., Ohio.
According to Valentine's son John's military pension application, the family then moved with a big wagon, "... by way of Buffalo, NY" to Liberty Twp., Van Wert Co., OH in "1846," - probably, however, after 1850. In the 1860 Census, they were in Shanes Crossing (now Rockford), OH with their six children (one had died). He was a farmer and a shoemaker and attended the United Brethren Church.
