Graveside services for Virginia Nelson Owen Sheppard, age 76, of Opelika, formerly of Randolph County, will be held on Monday, August 17, 2015, at 2:00 PM from Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Hill officiating and Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30-8:00 PM on Sunday, August 16, 2015.
Mrs. Sheppard passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at East Alabama Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence Sheppard; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Diane Hollis of Cusseta, AL and Rita White of Ashland, AL; and two brothers, Billy Nelson of Valley, AL and Leroy Nelson of Hollis, AL.
Pallbearers will be Tony Owen, Stevie Key, Terry Hill, Randy Sheppard, Allan Thrift, and Daniel Andrews.
A Randolph County native, Mrs. Sheppard was born on July 6, 1939, the daughter of J.L. and Bertha Williamson Nelson. She was Baptist by faith and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil Owen; and three sons, Ricky, Donald, and Jeffery Owen.
