Roger D Swanson, 75, of Ashland, formerly of Cinnamon Lake, died Friday evening at Brethren Care Village in Ashland.
Roger was born Aug. 23, 1939, in Lodi the son of Wayne and Ruth Kathryn (née Yergin) Swanson.
He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1958.
Roger worked on the roads for Congress Township, Jackson Township and Wayne County Highway Department.
He loved fishing, gardening and making furniture.
Roger loved the Lord and the First Baptist Church, where he was a member.
He is survived by his wife, Anna (née Johnson) Swanson, whom he married in 1960; two sons, Michael Swanson of West Salem and Robert (Brenda) Swanson of Ashland; five grandchildren, Freddie Swanson, Ben Swanson, Brandon (Cassie) Swanson, Teressa Roar and Jeremy (Jenny) Roar; nine great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hayley, Emma, Grady, Kaleb, Kameryn, Blake, Madeline and Kinsley; and a sister, Bonnie Geiser.
Roger was preceeded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday Aug. 18, 2015, at First Baptist Church in West Salem, with Pastor Jerry Arman officiating. Friends will be received at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Aug. 17, and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Fairhaven Cemetery.
