Ethel Waldron Burns


Casper - Services for Ethel Waldron Burns, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bustard Funeral Home by Rev. Dwayne Axworthy. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.


Mrs. Burns, 97, died May 10, 1994, at the Wyoming Medical Center following a short illness. She was born April 8, 1897, north of Alliance, Neb., the daughter of Edward and Adeline (Bartlett) Whetstone. She grew up and was educated in Alliance.


On Dec. 16, 1914, she married George Waldron in Alliance. The couple moved to Casper in March of 1917.


During her younger years, she enjoyed cosmetology and sewing at her home. She was active in Navy Mothers during World War II, Royal Neighbors and Ladies Aid at First Baptist Church.


In 1951, the family moved to Riverton where they owned and operated a self-service laundry until her husband's death in 1961. During that time, Mrs. Burns was actively involved with the WCTU at the church and Helping Hands Extension Club.


On Jan. 13, 1979, she married Roy B. Burns Sr. in Riverton. The couple made their home in Minneapolis until May of 1985, when they moved to Casper. While in Minnesota, Mrs. Burns was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was involved with the senior citizens organization there.


She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and making caps for newborns at the Wyoming Medical Center as recent as August of 1993. Mrs. Burns was also a member of the Riverton First Baptist Church.


Survivors include her son, Malon L. Waldron of Casper; two daughters, Nova Dick of Riverton and Wanda Heath of Puyallup, Wash.; a stepson, Ray B. Burns Jr. of Edina, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-granechildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren.


Preceding her in death were her parents; two husbands, George who died in 1961 and Roy who died in March of 1990; one son, LeRoy Waldron; a brother; and a sister.


The family would appreciate either flowers or memorials to the donor's choice.
