John Pemberton was the son of Isaiah Pemberton II and Esther Coate and the husband of Drusilla Elleman. He was born in Bush River Monthly Meeting in Newberry County, South Carolina. His father died there in 1801. His mother took her remaining family to Miami County, Ohio about 1804. John died in Ohio in 1853 and his estate went to probate in Miami County, Ohio. After 1860 his widow and her son, Elijah, moved to Marshall County, Iowa.
