OLD FORGE, NY - Richard E. Ferland of Old Forge passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at home and surrounded by his family. He was 70 years old.Richard was born on September 9, 1943 in Hopewell Jct., NY, the youngest son of Sybil and the late Emile Ferland.

He married Noreen (Candy) Frusciante on May 27, 1971, who survives at home. In addition, Richard is survived by his three children, Michele Ferland (Bob Churchwell) of Bedford, MA, Suzanne Jeckovich and her husband Clint, of New Symrna, FL and Matthew Ferland and his wife Christine of Boonville, NY; two grandchildren, Jessica Edwards, Deltona, FL and Joseph Williams, Coco Beach, FL; two great-grandchildren, Taelor and Dominic Edwards, Deltona, FL; three older brothers, Donald of Beacon, NY, Howard of Jamestown, IN and Frederic of Dandridge, TN, and their wives; a sister in law and brother in law, Barbara and Ben Tirabassi, Holmdel, NJ and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Richard worked for many years with his late father at DeLaval in Poughkeepsie as a union machinist. He was also the owner of REFS, a sporting goods store in Hopewell Jct., served for 12 years on the East Fishkill Town Board, and as Administrative Assistant at Camp Smith, Peekskill, NY, as an appointee of Gov. Pataki, before retiring to Old Forge.Throughout his life, Richard was a member of the Catholic faith, an avid sportsman, hunter, trap shooter and snowmobiler.

A life member and past president of Whortlekill Rod and Gun Club, Hopewell Jct., and member of the Inlet Barnstormers Snowmobile Club. His greatest joy was his family and friends and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
