Mamie Aline (Caddel) Roach, Nelson, age 98 of Mangum and a lifetime resident of Greer County, passed
away Monday, July 3, 2006 at the Mangum Community Hospital.
Aline was born on January 29, 1908 in the Ozark Community west of Granite to Joe Riley and Phoebe Effie
(Griffith) Caddel. She married George W. Roach on September 25, 1926. They had two sons and were
married for 34 years before his death in 1961. Aline later married Luther E. Nelson and they were married
for over 30 years before his death in 1998. Aline worked in the public for over 40 years and was elected
Greer County Tax Assessor in November 1966. She loved to visit friends, she enjoyed sewing, reading,
and making apricot jelly.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Joe Riley and Effie Caddel; husbands George W. Roach and
Luther E. Nelson; one son, Griffith G. Roach; three brothers, James (Jiggs) Caddel, Joe F. Caddel, and
Lewis (Jack) Caddel; two sisters, Naomi Parsons and Goldie Matheny.
Aline is survived by one son, George L. Roach and wife Peggy of Mangum; one sister, Jeanette Pattillo of
Mangum; five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Aline Nelson will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, July 6, 2006 at the Mangum Church of
Christ with Eddie Beard officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer
Funeral Home of Mangum.
