Wesley Walter Kemp was born October 17, 1918 in Reydell, Arkansas to Lawson and Edna (Washington) Kemp. He was called from labor to rest on February 1, 2001 at 8:40 pm at the Fairview Health Care Facility in Toledo, Ohio.

His early years was spent in Reydell where he met and married his childhood sweetheart, Maggie Pleasant on November 30, 1939 and remained together for 61 years.

🇺🇸 The family later moved to Chicago, where he was inducted in the United States Army for 2 1/2 years, receiving a Honorable Discharge.

In 1947 Wesley and Maggie moved to Toledo, Ohio.

Wesley's early education consisted of training as an automobile mechanic. He worked at Rossford Ordinance for 7 years. Wesley later went into his own business and bought a Gulf Service Station, known as Kemp Service Station, on the corner of Detroit and Oakwood for 16 years. After his station closed he was employed by the City of Toledo Municipal Garage retiring from there in 1985.

Wesley could never remain inactive so he worked part-time at Sears, C Brown Funeral Home and Johnson Cleaning Service.

The Kemps never had any children of their own, but were instrumental in rising several nieces and nephews.

Wesley received Christ as a young man at the age if 21 and until he could no longer speak which was approximately 2 weeks before he passed always declared the love and goodness of the Lord. He always witness to the family members about receiving Christ in their life.

He was an active member of the Toledo Central Chapter of the Lions Club. His passion for singing was well known and appreciated with the Jubilee Singers, Calvary's Male Chorus, the City-Wide Male Chorus of Toledo and Calvary #2 Choir. He worked in the Sunday School and was a Deacon, counseling and mentoring young men in the Lord's service.

Preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.

Wesley leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 61 years, Maggie; daughter, Annie Banks; a grand-daughter; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Maggie Early; aunt, Luella Harris; a host of other loving relatives; kind friends and his Calvary Missionary Baptist Church family.
