She was born in about 1855, the sixth of seven children born to William "Big Bill" and Amanda M. (Henderson) McCutchen of the Donner Party. She was believed to be still living in 1911, possibly married with the surname Clough, but little more is known. An elder sister, Harriett Eleanor McCutchen, died near Truckee (now Donner) Lake during the ordeal, and his youngest brother, Edward Johnson McCutchen, was a founder of a predecessor to the law firm now known as Bingham McCutchen LLP.
