Charles Virgil Byars, 51, of 713 Wabash avenue, died at 11:20 a.m. today at Ottumwa hospital where he had been a medical patient since April 18. The body was removed to the Johnson funeral chapel.

Charles V. Byars, 51, of 713 Wabash avenue, died at the Ottumwa hospital at 11:20 a.m. Thursday.

The son of Martin L. and Emma Halbrooks Byars, he was born February 3, 1907, at Farrington, Ill. He had lived in Wapello county the past seven months and in Ottumwa for the past two months. He was a member of the Church of God in DeKalb, Ill. He was married November 5, 1955 in Ottumwa to Darlene Lathrop.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Charles Byars, Jr., on leave from army duty in Korea, Ralph Byars of Malta, Ill., and Jerry Lee Byars at home; three daughters, Mrs. Shirley Godsey, Mrs. Marjorie Williams and Miss Linda Byars all of Aurora, Ill.; a stepson, Robert Dean Lathrop at home; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Marilyn Kay Justice, Karen Elaine, Sharon Lynn and Cheryl Lea Lathrop all at home; four grandchildren; a brother, Sylvester Byars of DeKalb; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Standberry; and his father, Martin L. Byars also of DeKalb. He was preceded in death by his mother in March 1955 [sic].

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Johnson funeral chapel. The Rev. R.F. Dinsmore, pastor of the Four-square church, and the Rev. Harold Henry, pastor of the First church of the Nazarene, will be in charge. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery. The casket will be taken to the home at 713 Wabash avenue this afternoon and will be returned to the chapel Saturday morning.
