Richard “Monday” Solomon, 48, of East Haven, died on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in Jamaica while on vacation with his companion of twenty five years, Cathryn Laydon. Rich was born in New Haven on April 28, 1965 to the late James and Isabelle Taft Solomon. He owned and operated Solomon Trucking of New Haven for over 20 years until going to work as a driver for Laydon Industries of New Haven and Elm City Materials in West Haven this past year. Rich was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching his beloved New York Yankees. He played in men’s and co-ed softball leagues in East Haven, West Haven and New Haven and had been a coach of the West Haven Seahawks football team. While at Wilbur Cross he received Honorable Mention All State in Hockey. Rich was a communicant of St. Vincent dePaul Church in East Haven. Besides Cathy, he is survived by a sister Joyce Solomon-McCleese, three brothers Johnny, John and Willie (Virginia) Solomon, all of New Haven. He also leaves many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, foster brothers and sisters and cousins. Funeral will leave the EAST HAVEN MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 425 Main St., 203-467-1708, Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 10 am for a memorial mass at St. Vincent dePaul Church at 10:30. Friends may call Saturday prior to the mass from 8:30 to 9:45. Interment of ashes will take place at the All Saints Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
