Mr. Helton was born April 5, 1928, at Arkadelphia to Jerome Curby (J.C.) and Lucille Malcom Helton. He was affectionately known as “Mr. Lester” to all his friends, was a retired farmer and a long-standing member of the Lexa Baptist Church. He served on the Beaver Bayou Lick Creek Drainage District since 1978.
He was survived by his wife of 25 years, Frances Lederman Helton; three children, Patricia Cormier (Richard), Kathleen Simpson (Lynn) and Roy Lester Helton Jr. (Barbara); 10 grandchildren, Jeff Meiers, Steven Boyd, Marc Boyd, Peyton Simpson, Courtney Taphorn, Leslie Helton, Hillary Green, Drew Simpson, Colleen (C.J.) Helton and Rory Helton; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Pat Hardy; three sisters-in-law, Annie Helton, Betty Helton, and Deloris Helton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 41 years, Colleen Helton; his parents; three brothers, James, Robert and Alfred Helton; and a sister, Mildred Butler.
