Daphene P. Barco
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Daphene Phillips Barco, 78, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in a local hospital. A lifelong resident of Virginia Beach, she worked for a few years at Dam Neck, and for the last 30 years she operated summer rental properties in Virginia Beach. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she treasured her family, her special friends and her pets. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Barco's mother, Adelaide Nichols, and a brother, Raymond Phillips, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Charles E. Barco Jr. of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Daphene B. Ashley and her husband, John, of Virginia Beach; a son, Charles E. ``Chip'' Barco III and his wife, Ruth, of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Kara B. Gaunce, Charles W. Barco, Cheryl Ashley and Brice Ashley, all of Virginia Beach. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Maestas Funeral Home, Baltic Avenue Chapel. Following the service, the family will greet friends at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA, 3040 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.

Daphine Barco, who was rescued from the second floor of the home by firefighters, is in the burn/trauma unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
