Miss Abigail Ruth Staples was born August 23, 1909 in Sewanee, Tennessee, the daughter of Aaron Staples Jr (1874–1953) and his wife Della L (Gray) Staples (1884–1981). [NOTE: The obituary spelled her 1st name as Abilgail.]

She was a graduate of Tennessee State University, a former teacher in both Silver Point, Tennessee and The Nashville Christian Institute. She was retired in New York as a certified Social Worker.

Abigail was 105 years old when she passed away on August 10, 2015 in Nashville, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her siblings Mary (Staples) Boatright, Lydia (Staples) Bryant, Lula (Staples) Huddleston, Jessie Staples, Thomas Staples and Christine Staples, she was survived by a number of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and other family members, as well as her church family and friends.

Funeral Services were held at Schrader Lane Church of Christ, and burial was in the family plot in Greenwood Cemetery Main.
