A retired employee of Arnold Engineering Development Center, he was a fighter pilot in World War II and for his bravery was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a Master Mason and past Master of Winchester Lodge No. 158, a Shriner, and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
A native of Franklin County, he was born September 27, 1920 to the late Albert Burkhalter and Sadie Minnich Burkhalter.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. January 17 at Watson-Gamble Chapel with burial in Franklin Memorial Gardens. Masonic services will be held at the graveside.
Survivors include his wife, Lourayne Burkhalter of Winchester; one sister, Mrs. Carl McDowell of Naples, Florida; several nieces and nephews.
