BURLEY – Frieda Neiwert, a 91-year old resident of Burley, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015 at Highland Estates Retirement and Assisted Living Center in Burley.

She was born Sept. 23, 1923 in Lamar, Colorado, the seventh of 12 children to Gottfred "Fred" and Katharine "Katie" Maier Heinze. She spent her early years and attended grade school in Teton, Idaho. She later moved to Rexburg and attended Madison High School.

The Heinze family then moved to Rupert to farm, which was where she met Reuben Neiwert. They were married on March 20, 1941, in Burley. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Idaho LDS Temple on March 29, 1966.

In addition to raising her four children, Frieda worked at Stan's Café, the Idaho Potato Processing Plant, Klink's Florist, the Gold Strike Stamp Store, Montgomery Ward, the Becky Ann Café, Sav-Mor Drug Store and the Jiffy Stop. She also helped Reuben haul milk from Burley to Jerome for Challenge Dairy for several years after they closed the Burley plant.

Frieda was an amazing cook! She enjoyed embroidery work and embroidered beautiful quilt tops, pillow slips, and dish towels. She had awesome collections of Precious Moments, spoons and stamps from all over the world.

She had a "green thumb," and raised beautiful plants and flowers indoors and outdoors. She also enjoyed gardening and canning, especially her home-grown tomatoes.

She was a wonderful wife and mother. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all held a special place in her heart. Her compassion and desire to help and serve others was observed by all who knew her.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was faithful in her callings. She served as a visiting teacher, Relief Society secretary, Primary teacher, librarian, and Young Women secretary.

She is survived by her daughters: Karla (Bert) Spear, of Richland, WA, and Sue Ann Bodell, of Idaho Falls, ID; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reuben; a son, Larry; a daughter, Shirley (Terry) Elsethagen; three grandchildren; seven brothers: Fred, John, Edward, Ruben, Harry, Melvin and Albert; and four sisters: Nettie Gould, Lydia Winters, Pauline Knopp and Irene Marvin.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the Burley 2nd Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 515 E. 16th St., in Burley, with Bishop Clay Handy officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church.
