Gerald "Tom" Thomas Warren, 83

May 5, 1932 ~ August 10, 2015

Gerald was born on May 5, 1932, on the family farm near Decatur, Nebraska, to George and Gertrude Warren.

In 1953, Tom was in the US Army in Korea.

On March 25, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mina L. Young in Decatur, Nebraska.

They farmed for several years before moving to Blair in April 1960. Tom worked at the Gaydou and Brown Hatchery in Blair, Nebraska for many years and then for Christensen Feed in Kennard, Nebraska. Prior to retiring, he worked at the Washington County Courthouse as a grounds keeper.

Tom and Mina played in a country western band in the Nebraska and Iowa areas for over 20 years. He played guitar. In those days, lyrics were harder to come by, so his mother sat by the radio taking notes in shorthand.

He enjoyed playing the card game, Canasta, with his family members.

Tom was a member of the Eagles Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Later in life, Tom told of two times he seriously prayed hard to God: the first time was in Korea, when he was moving heavy equipment on the hillsides with bombs dropping all around him. The second time was when his beloved wife, Mina, was ill.

Gerald "Tom" Thomas Warren, age 83 of Blair, died Monday, August 10, 2015 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Community in Blair, Nebraska after a short battle with pneumonia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, daughter Gay A. Riley, brother Lloyd Warren and sister Joan Dorn.

Left with memories are son Mark (Jenny) Warren of Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughter Terri (Brent) Ramsey of Blair; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers Paul (Bev) Warren and Raymond (Ann) Warren; sister Mary Lou Wedgewood.

Visitation was Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair, Nebraska beginning at noon, and prior to 2 pm Memorial Services, held at the Funeral Home. Pastor Glen Hudson from Country Bible Church conducted the services, offering words of comfort and telling stories the family had passed along to him. Tom liked country singers like Loretta Lynn and Elvis Presley, and the songs were some of these singers' recordings: "Where No One Stands Alone", "Amazing Grace" and "Peace In The Valley". After leaving the funeral home, there was a brief memorial service at the Blair Cemetery, with military honors, and then the family invited people to join them at Fernando's Restaurant in Blair. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.

Uncle Tom will be truly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Save a seat at the Canasta table for me for when I get there!--Joe Warren
