George Allen was the son of Francis Myers Allen and Charlotte Smith. He was a veteran of the Civil War. George enlisted at Mount Pleasant as a Private on 25 Sep 1861 at the age of 18. He mustered in Co D 4th Iowa Cavalry on 25 Nov 1861. Was promoted to Trumpeter on 1 Dec 1863. Re-enlisted and re-mustered on 19 Dec 1863. Reappointed Trumpeter. George mustered out with his company on 8 Aug 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia.

George married Maria Voyles on 3 Nov 1873 at Madison County, Illinois. Maria had two children from a previous marriage, James and Amanda Savage. George and Maria had three known children: Albert, Martha, and George.

George died in 1887 at the age of 43 years 10 months. Maria died in 1929.
