Deacon Fred L. Burnett, Sr. was born on April 2, 1936 to parents, Nathaniel Jordan and Magalene Crawford Burnett (raised by his stepfather, John Burnett). He was second to the oldest of eleven children.On March 2, 1956, Deacon Burnett united in holy matrimony to Inez Dykes in Marks, Mississippi and in 1957 they moved to Marion, Indiana. To this union, 5 children were born, Henry, Fred, Phillip, Rozena and Darlene.Deacon Burnett accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a very early age. Throughout his life, he was known to be a strong prayer warrior always praying for people. He was strategic in leading his family to Christ and he had many incredible experiences with the Lord. Deacon Burnett was a member of Greater Second Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for 58 years. Most of all, he loved the Lord.Deacon Burnett was employed at several jobs; however, his last job was at Essex Wire, where he worked for 29 years until the factory closed. Deacon Burnett was a family man, hard worker, he loved working on cars, and enjoyed boxing.Deacon Burnett departed this life on Thursday, August 6, 2015. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Inez; daughters, Rozena (Joe), of Waynesville, Missouri, Darlene (Jeris) of Killeen, Texas; sons, Henry, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Fred and Phillip (Pucci), both of Marion, IN; grandchildren, Javon and lil’ Joe and Trae; sisters, Virginia Crawford (Robert), Martha Staten, all of Marks, Mississippi, Lucille Brown, of Chicago, Illinois, Ruth Jennings, of Anderson, Indiana, Sheila Jordon of Decatur, Alabama; brothers, Mose Burnett of Marks, Mississippi, George Jordan and Carlos Jordan, both of Decatur, Alabama; and a host of relatives and friends.Deacon Fred Burnett Sr., was preceded in death by his mother, Magalene Burnett; his stepfather, John Burnett; his father, Nathaniel Jordan; his siblings, Pearl Burnett, Alberta Davis, Mary McCray, John Burnett, Robert Burnett, Jesse Burnett, Lucy Maybell, Patty Williams, Ella “Sweet” Hood, and James Jordan.Funeral services for Deacon Burnett will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Greater Second Baptist Church, 705 W. 26th St., Marion, IN, with the Rev. Ricky McCray officiating. Interment will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion, IN.Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, prior to the service at the church.Arrangements entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Avenue, Marion, IN.
