Joe Edward Owen, 85, of Cornersville, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at his daughter's home in Nashville.
Mr. Owen was a native of Minnow Branch, in Giles County. He was very proud of his service in the army and was a Disabled American Veteran of the Korean War. For many years he owned and operated the Parrish & Owen Gulf service station in Cornersville. He was also a farmer who meticulously maintained first a 265-acre farm and later a 77-acre farm where he raised cattle, prior to failing health.
In his younger days he was known for his outgoing personality and his cigar. An avid card player, he seldom lost. He worked hard and spent little. He miraculously overcame every prognosis given by his doctors. He was tenacious, strong, and stubborn, never giving in or giving up. His presence will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Joan Parrish Owen; his parents, Andrew Jefferson and Lorene Wheeler Owen; sister, Julia Owen Wade; and brother, Allen W. Owen.
He is survived by one daughter, Karen Owen Moore, and one granddaughter, Ashley Renee Moore, both of Nashville; sister, Janie Williams of Lewisburg; brother, Marion Owen of Spring Place; and dear friends who were like sons, Larry Roberts of Cornersville and Terry Woodard of Possum Trot.
