He was born in Taylorville on Oct. 29, 1896, the son of George A. and Amy Deal Dupy. He married Carol Grimshaw in 1918 and she died in 1968. He resided in California for over 50 years before returning to Illinois.
Mr. Dupy was an electrical television engineer who pioneered in television and hearing aids.
He was associated for many years with MGM Studios in Hollywood, where he installed the first equipment for recording sound in movies.
In 1951, Mr. Dupy received an Academy Award for design, construction and application of a motion picture reproducing system.
Mr. Dupy was a member of the Sapphire Club of Recording Engineers and the Motion Picture Art and Science Academy Awards.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War I. Surviving are one sister, Edith McGill of Springfield; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and six great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Remains were cremated.
