Born June 2, 1943, he was a son of the late Edmond Jasper and Edna Iona (Hothem) Booth. He married Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Troyan and she survives. They had been married 45 years.
Dr. Booth also is survived by a son, Darin (Julia) Booth, Huntersville, North Carolina; four daughters, Kristen Booth, New York, New York; Dr. Anne (Aaron) Clark, Upper Sandusky; Elizabeth (Brent) Moffitt, Dublin; and Jamie (Dan) Szapka, Warwick, New York; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Dr. James (Pam) Booth, Gratiot; Dr. Jack (Sandy) Booth, Nashport; and Jon (Marcie) Booth, Zanesville.
A 1961 graduate of Zanesville High School, Dr. Booth was class president, a member of National Honor Society and a varsity letter winner in football, wrestling and track. He then earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry with high academic honors in 1965 from Otterbein College. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Booth was a member of Zeta Phi Fraternity and also played football, ran track and was an accomplished wrestler. He continued on to Ohio State University Medical School, specializing in urology, following in his father’s footsteps. He completed his residency at Cincinnati General Hospital before returning to Zanesville in 1974.
In Zanesville, Dr. Booth was a certified board physician specializing in urology. During his residency in Cincinnati and the first years in his hometown, he was part of the Air Force Reserves for six years, serving as a flight surgeon. He was president of the Muskingum County Medical Academy, as well as medical chief of Good Samaritan and Bethesda. He later served as Muskingum County coroner for three years.
Dr. Booth was the co-founder and first president of the Zanesville Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and continued volunteering in the chapter for 25 years. Actively involved in the community, he was coach of Y-City Baseball Biddy League and for six years was the team physician for the ZHS cross country and track teams.
He was an avid runner and completed several 26.2-mile marathons. A true outdoorsman, Dr. Booth enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking and was the owner of thoroughbreds for harness horse racing.
Dr. Booth’s passion for his career, life, wife and children make him the type of man who stands apart, yet doing so in quiet repose.
The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Snouffer Funeral Home, 1150 W. Military Road, Zanesville. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
