He was the son of Earl and Mary (Bowers) Sterling. On Oct 1, 1975, he married Ruth 'Helen' King, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are two stepsons: Raymond Carver, Chicago, IL, and David Carver, Lima; two stepdaughters: Marlene Parker, Lima, and Robin Carver, Swansboro, NC; three brothers: James and Russell (Freda), both Lima, and Arthur, Newark; and seven sisters: Nadine Hefner, Lafayette, Nelda Curzi-Sterling, Italy, Ruth (George) McClain, Beaverdam, Betty Abbott, Lima, Neva Fedele, Cridersville, Helen (Bill) Parson, Ashboro, NC, and Natalie Sterling, Delphos.
Deceased are two brothers: Bob and John; and a sister, Nina Conrad.
A 1952 graduate of Lima South High School*, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country for 20 years retiring in 1976 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in Korea, Germany and Vietnam. Once out of the military, he took a position as a linesman with Buckeye Rubber Co. and worked there for 25 years until he retired in 2001. He was a life member of both the VFW #1275 and the American Legion #96.
Funeral services will be at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the U.S. Air Force and the VFW #1275.
