Third director of the National Park Service, Arno Cammerer grew up in Janesville, Wisconsin, and for a time worked at the Parker Pen company. After leaving Janesville in 1904, Cammerer went east, first working as a bookkeeper, then earning a law degree at Georgetown Law School. For a time he served as the executive director of the Fine Arts Commission, and later was appointed to be assistant director of the National Parks Service, with Horace Albright. Mt. Cammerer in the Great Smoky Mountains is named for him.
