Mrs. Niswonger was born February 13, 1909 in Kurreville, the daughter of George and Amanda (Bryan) Welker. She married Pinkston P. Niswonger on June 18, 1927 in Perryville. He preceded her in death on August 13, 1974. Mrs. Niswonger worked as an assembler at Superior Electric Products, Inc. for 25 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of Red Star Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau and the Navy Mothers Club of America.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James Sr. (Belva) Litzelfelner of Jackson and Mrs. Faye Almalene Schreiner of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Melvin (wife, Elta) Niswonger of Perryville, Gary (wife, Margaret) Niswonger of Jackson and Larry "Deeds" Niswonger of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Mrs. Jean Schreiner of Jackson and Mrs. Charles William I (Ollie Marie) Hager of Taylorville, Illinois; one brother, Leslie Lee (wife, Beatrice) Welker of East Alton, Illinois; one half-sister, Mrs. Clara Gagnepain of Perryville; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Otis Welker, Clarence Welker, Fred Welker and Lyman Welker; four sisters, Sadie Welker, Connie Green, Dessie Newell and Cloa Stevens; and three half-brothers, William Welker, Edward Welker and Charles Chester Hunter I.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 1991, at McCombs Funeral Home. Rev. Cy Smith officiated, with burial following at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
