Many folks knew 'Pepper'...how can one write any story about this guy? While looking on the internet for some data and/or ideas, I came across what seemed to be the best description of him. In May of 2000, A Maryland state senator wrote of a special memorial for Pepper in an article that appeared on the website Southern Maryland Online. Pepper was called "one of Southern Maryland's most beloved watermen and citizens in that area. The senator said "Pepper was born in 1915 in Solomons, (Md.) and had literally carved out a remarkable legacy for himself there, one of the loveliest places in Maryland. His exquisitely detailed woodcarvings and model boats are on display throughout the island, many of them at the Calvert Marine Museum".

Note: Many folks who have seen models created by Pepper stand in awe and comment there are few anywhere equal to them. I happen to strongly agree with that assessment.

The article also pointed out that "One of Pepper's major contributions to the CMM was organizing the Solomons Island Model Boat Club". It started out with six members, but later grew to over 50. Pepper also wrote "I Remember," about the life - his - as a waterman. Pepper worked in the ship yards around Solomons and Annapolis. He built special purpose ships for the U.S. Navy during WW II. Pepper later painted signs at one Navy base and then built model airplanes at another. Needless to say, the work of Pepper is all over the Marine Museum in Solomons and at the Naval Air station Pax River in St Marys county. You can read the entire article by the senator on Southern Md Online website. And you can visit the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons to see and read even more about Pepper. You can also stop by the cemetery before entering the roadway to the museum. Just inside the gate a short distance and on the right.

Father of son Lee, deceased, 2 daughters, 3 other sons. And grandfather of 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.
