Shirley Ann Ruiz, 69, of Newton died on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at her son’s home in Newton. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at her son’s home, 130 E. 23rd St N. at 5 p.m., Friday, July 31. Burial will be held in Dalton, Arkansas at a later date. Memorials in Shirley’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Shirley, the daughter of James L. and Meeta (Crawford) Stacy, was born on June 30, 1946 in Arkansas. She graduated from Independence High School in Independence, Iowa in 1964. Shirley was united in marriage with Manuel M. Ruiz, Sr. in June of 1967. They lived in many places throughout their marriage, but raised their family in Independence. Shirley was a homemaker and also worked as a CNA for 13 years, retiring in 2002. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cross-stitch, and embroidery.

Those left to honor Shirley’s memory are her children, Manuel “Manny” M. (Paula) Ruiz, Jr., Angela D. (James) Hodge, and Anna M. (Shawn) Pittman; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Duke Stacy of Rowley, Cliff (Patti Jo) Stacy of Brandon, Curt Stacy, Ellie (Kelly) Caldwell of Berryville, Arkansas, Pat (Chris) Neal of Crump, Tennessee, and Kenny (Brenda) Stacy of Blytheville, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Manuel Ruiz, Sr.; daughter, Angel Ruiz; sister, Bonnie Carson; and a brother-in-law, David Carson.
