When Daniel arrived in Vietnam 22 February 1969 he was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
Daniel died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile rifle fire in the vicinity of the Ha Tay Village and 8 kilometers northwest of Dien Ban.
Survived by his parents, Walter G and Mary A O'Connell and his 5 brothers, Walter, Francis, Christopher, Joseph and Patrick O'Connell all
of Copiague, New York.
