Dean of Westminster 1856-1864, Archbishop of Dublin 1864-1884, writer and philologist. He was born in Dublin Ireland and the son of Richard Trench and the author Melesina Chenevix. Educated at Harrow, and graduated at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1829. In 1857 at a meeting of the Philological Society a suggestion of his became a resolution which resulted in the scheme for The Oxford English Dictionary. He instituted evening services in the nave on Sundays at Westminster Abbey.
