He was a member of First Baptist Church in Covesville, Virginia and preceded in death by his grandson, Jovon Burruss.Ned spent his early childhood years in Covesville, Virginia, but graduated a Proud Burley Bear from Jackson P. Burley High School in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1964. After high school he began work for A&P in which he served in many capacities with the company and retired in 1995 after 33 years of faithful service.
A hard worker and devoted family man, he was an outdoor enthusiast which turned into precious family time with his sons and grandsons. Ned could be found cutting grass or wood, fishing, or simply waiting for next week's Sunday dinner. He thoroughly enjoyed cruising in his Corvette "Dowell5" on any given sunny day. Ned's adoration for his seven grand boys, laughter, jokes, and a smile were always a part of a visit with him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Doris Morris Dowell of Charlottesville, Virginia; his sons, Joseph Eugene Dowell Jr. and Penny, James Eugene Dowell Sr. and Katina of Gordonsville, Virginia, and Joshua Eugene Dowell and Nitika of Richmond, Virginia; his sisters, Patricia Clark and Jonathan of Appalachia, Virginia, and Deloris Jackson of Charlottesville, Virginia; his six loving grandsons, Jamal Dowell, Devante Dowell, James Dowell Jr., Makail Johnson, Jamar Burruss, and Jayden Dowell; his nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church at 5883 Henderson Lane Covesville, Virginia, at 1 p.m. on Thursday August 13, 2015, with the Reverend Joe Chambers officiating.
