OTTUMWA – Former Ottumwan Leland Curtis "Unc" Jackson, 75, of Des Moines, died at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 9, 1990, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born May 25, 1915, in Milan, Mo. to Lester and Elfia Howard Jackson.
A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he moved to Des Moines in 1982. He was a painter. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
He is survived by a son, Bernard Jackson of Hillbard [sic], Ill.; two grandchildren; two sisters, Sylvia Drake of Brooklyn and Mildred Cox of Ottumwa and two brothers, Robert and Whitey Jackson.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Jackson and an infant brother.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa, the Rev. Harold Gilleney officiating.
Military rites will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post 3 of the American Legion who will also serve as pallbearers.
The family will be at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
