Eileen Ruth Snyder, 69, Minot, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 in a Minot hospital.

Eileen was born at home on June 23, 1942 in Minot, ND, to Clarence and Irene (Stromstad) Westereng. She attended public school at Roosevelt Elementary and Minot High School, graduating with the class of 1960.

Eileen continued her education at Minot State Teacher’s College. Her accomplishments included the opportunity to serve in the position of year book editor. In 1964, she earned a B.S. degree with a focus on English and Journalism, preparing her for a career as an educator.

Eileen was joined in marriage to Lee Snyder on December 19, 1964 at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. She was a high school/college educator for the next 45 years, educating students at Minot High School, Bishop Ryan, Donnybrook, Minot State University and Burdick Job Corps until her retirement. In addition to teaching throughout her life she was an experienced seamstress, sewing costumes for the Minot High and Minot State Theater Troupes, as well sewing draperies with her mother.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot where she found great enjoyment teaching confirmation. Eileen enjoyed reading, collecting North Dakota Pottery, doing puzzles, games and playing all sorts of card games. She will be missed for her unmatched qualities as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher and friend.

Her loving family includes her devoted husband of 47 years, Lee Snyder, Minot; sons, Lyle (Emily) Snyder, Tyler, MN, Leif Snyder, Minot and Lynn Snyder, Jamestown, ND; granddaughter, Astrid Irene Snyder; brothers, Allen Westereng, Minot and Earl Westereng, Williston, ND, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents and a young sister, Norma Westereng and a young brother, John Westereng.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

There will be no reviewal, however, family and friends are invited to sign the memorial register book on Monday, May 28, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
