Funeral services for Douglas F. Owen, 76, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fourth and Elm Street Church of Christ with Joe Bagby officiating. Burial will be in Smith Family Cemetery in Waxahachie by McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater. Mr. Owen died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, in Lubbock.

He was born on Feb. 21, 1930, in Olton to Charlie M. and Leila Farrar Owen. He graduated from Olton High School in 1947 and received a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech in 1951, a master's degree in 1962 from Oklahoma State University and his Ph.D., in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Wanda Y. Owen on Sept. 5, 1953, in Littlefield. He moved to Sweetwater from Plainview in 1997. He was retired after 30 years as a research agronomist with Texas A&M University. He was a member of Fourth and Elm Church of Christ in Sweetwater.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy Leann and Ted Basye of Sweetwater; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Timothy Carl and Amy Owen of Coppell, and Stephen Douglas and Debbie Owen of Midland; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. His parents and four sisters, Margaret Burrus, Naomi Holyfield, Charlie Fay Granbery and Ruth M. Jones, are deceased.
