Coburn, F. D., Born, Jefferson Co. Wis., May 7, 1846, son of Ephraim W. and Mary Jane (Mulks) Coburn; married Lou Jenkins, Sept., 1869, Franklin Co., Kan.; enlisted 135th Ill. Vols., 1864; after war came to Kansas, locating near Ottawa; taught school 2 years; greater part of life spent on farm up to 1880; in 1882, elected sec. of St. Bd. of Agriculture, which position he held for 3 months; editor of Live Stock Indicator, KcMo., 6 years; connected much of ensuing time with a prominent real estate and investment company, Kansas City, Kan.; sec. of St. Bd. of Agriculture, 1894, and for 5 succeeding terms has been re-elected by acclamation; ex-pres. of State Temperance Union; chief of dept. of live stock, Universal Exposition, St. Louis, Mo., 1904.
