Marling, Mary Ellen 91 July 02, 1922 Jan. 14, 2014 Mary Ellen (Maidment) Marling was born in Lonerock to parents, Charles Maidment and Maurine (Huddleston) Maidment. She graduated from high school in Condon, class of '41. The following year, she married Donald Arbogast of Waterville, Wash., and he died on their first wedding anniversary while serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1946, she married Philip Harris, a lineman from Topeka, Kan., and they resided together in Oregon City for 20 years where they raised four children. Phil died at age 48, and Mary returned to school to complete her nurses training at Portland Community College. She worked as an RN at Multnomah County Hospital until her retirement. In 1976, she married William Marling of Bakersfield, Calif. Throughout their 33 years of marriage, Mary and Bill enjoyed traveling extensively with their travel trailer. Mary is survived by sister, Myrtle Potter of Condon; brother, Carl Maidment of Yuma, Ariz.; daughters, Donna Lee Arbogast Hazel and Maribeth Harris Vadney; stepdaughters, Sharron Lee Harris Doel and Sue Marling Krause; stepsons, David Marling and Greg Marling; grandson, Philip Vadney; many stepgrandchildren; nieces; and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by husband, Bill Marling; sons, Spencer Harris and Todd Harris; and brother, Lyle Maidment. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Gilman Park Assisted Living, 2205 Gilman Drive, Oregon City. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Oregon Public Broadcasting.
