Oleta M. Venable, 88, of Slater, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at First Baptist Church in Slater. Rev. Robert Sisney will officiate. Organist Bethany Weiker will play "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Pallbearers will be Whitney Venable, Lon Venable, Bill Lewellen, Steve Owens, Eric Stafford and Randy Small. Burial will be in the Slater City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Born Feb. 9, 1916, in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Bessie Adams Christian. On Oct. 24, 1942, in Higginsville, she married Howard L. Venable, who preceded her in death Nov. 15, 1975. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Slater and a longtime resident of rural Slater. Survivors include two sons, Ron Venable of Slater and Jerry Venable of Slater; one stepdaughter, Patricia Robbins of McLouth, Kan.; three sisters, Daina Hollan of Richmond, Lillian Smidt of Omaha, Neb., and Marilyn Small of Lexington; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one stepson, one granddaughter, one brother and two sisters.
