Joseph R. Cooke was born September 17, 1928, in Simpson, Kansas, the son of Albert C. and Anna Lucile (Ditto) Cooke. He died August 8, 2015.

Joe served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring with a distinguished record. He was employed by the Salina School District for many years as building operator and coordinator of shop services until his retirement. He also was retired director of maintenance for Asbury Hospital.

Joe was a 25 year member of Salina Kiwanis Club where he served as president for two terms. He was lieutenant governor of District 4, Kansas District of Kiwanis, and was awarded distinguished lieutenant governor. He also was secretary for Kansas Kiwanis Foundation for 11 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Maxine Poe, Virginia Urbanek and Joyce Massey.

Survivors include his wife, companion, and friend of 63 years, Bonnie J. (Kitterman) Cooke; daughter, Cynthia Arvelo; two sons, Craig Cooke and Curtis Cooke; grandchildren, Jennifer McNeal, Joe Wigg, Katrina Ringler, Greggory Cooke and Curtis Jay Cooke; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
