Leonard ("Jonar") was baptized at the Catholic Church in Quebec City, Quebec, on 15 Sep. 1674. He was the son of Simeon LeRoy and Claude "Blandina" DesChalets. He relocated to Kingston, Ulster Co., NY, with his parents about 1681-2. His name was written by the Dutch as Jonar Lerwa/Larrowa, etc., based on how it sounded.

He married Maria "Oeycke" Uzielle on 28 Sep. 1703 in Kingston. They relocated to near Albany, Albany Co., NY, and then Schoharie, old Albany (now Schoharie) Co., about 1725-29. They both joined the Reformed Dutch Church there, where Leonard/Jonar subsequently became a deacon.

"Jonar" and Maria had at least 10 children together, as follows:

Peter (bapt. 3 Sep. 1704)
Blandina (bapt. 1 Feb. 1708)
Cornelia (born about 1709)
Simeon (born about 1711)
Jonas (bapt. 19 Sep. 1714; died an infant)
Jonas (bapt. 24 June 1716)
Jan/John (bapt. 19 Oct. 1718)
Maria (bapt. 4 June 1721)
David (bapt. 6 Oct. 1723)
Isaac
George

The first child, Peter, was baptized at Kingston. The other baptisms shown took place in Albany. The last two children were probably born in Schoharie.

The date of Jonar's death is not known, but it occurred sometime after 1750, presumably in Schoharie. His memorial is placed here (tentatively), in the burial ground of his church.
