On January 12, 2011, Antoinette McIntyre, known to her patients as Toni and to her family as Aunt Tiny, lost her six-year battle against emphysema. Fellow nurses lovingly cared for Antoinette at the end at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence.

She was the daughter of Polish-born parents, Caroline and Michael Bauer, and the stepdaughter of Frank Kraus. Born November 18, 1926 in Utica, NY, raised in Wayne, NY, she graduated form Hammondsport High School in Hammondsport, NY. During WW II she graduated from the United States Cadet Nurse Corps, Norwalk Hospital, class of 1945. She lived in Darien, CT since 1949. Antoinette cared for her patients at Norwalk Hospital and at Courtland Gardens in Stamford, CT. She did private duty, and worked for 30 years in the office of her late husband, Dr. Frederick P. McIntyre until their retirement. Antoinette volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Drives. A very proud traditional nurse, she was always in white uniform and wearing her white cap with blue ribbon from Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing. She was active with Holmes School Darien Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, and was booster for the Darien Blue Wave football team. Antoinette always maintained a vegetable garden, loved sewing and working crossword puzzles, and knew how to repair anything mechanical.

Antoinette was predeceased by her parents and her beloved sisters and brothers: Pauline Sauvage, Major Karol Bauer, Stella Casey, Edward M. Bauer, Stephanie Mellor, Mary Schmidt, and Carolina Beaver. She is survived by two sons: Charles Rodney and wife Nancy of Lake Charles, LA; and Creighton Ronald Demarest, Darien, CT; three grandchildren: Matthew Bradford, and Stephanie Demarest; and one great-granddaughter, Sonya Demarest; 25 nieces and nephews; and four stepchildren: Lynda McIntyre, Katharine McIntyre, Frederick McIntyre, Jr., and Susan McIntyre.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be with the Bauer family in Utica, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care of Southwestern Connecticut, Stamford, www.vnhcsw.org. Please visit www.lawrencefuneralhome.com to leave on on-line condolence.
