Mitchell Scott, 78, of the White Station community outside Crossett died Thursday, July 20, 2006, at his residence. A native of Lake Providence, LA, and a Crossett resident for 61 years, he was retired from the Georgia-Pacific paper mill and was a member of the Pleasant Green Baptist Church and a Mason. He liked to hunt and fish and was a member of the Maxwell Hunting Club.


Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Silver Lee Scott; three sons, Mitchell Scott, Jr., and wife Brenda and Eddie J. Scott and wife Clarice of Jacksonville and James Scott and wife Jacqueline of Crossett; a stepson, Randy Orlando and wife Sandra Gill of Dallas, TX; eight daughters, Mary and husband Donald Smith, Linda and husband Glenn Ellis, Rose and husband George Hampton, Marilyn and husband Carl Whaley, Vera Scott, and Clayton and husband Audwin Bradford, all of Crossett, Pernilla and husband Walter Smith of Louisville, KY, and Emma Tate of Camden; 36 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Pernilla Nolan Scott.

Funeral services were planned for 1 p. m. on Tuesday, July 25, in the Ryles Chapel A. M. E. Church with Rev. Jessie Putney officiating and with grandsons as pallbearers. Burial was to follow in the Ryles Cemetery with arrangements by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
