Col. Sol. D. Betton. He was born in Virginia on 8/4/1806 and in 1812 moved to Jones Co., Ga. He settled in Greenville in 1857. His wife died after 57 years of married life. They married on 6/30/1826. The Colonel lived in Cuthbert, Ga. where he moved in 1883. He was a postmaster for 40 years in Millegeville, Ga.They lived in Butler County in 1857 but returned back to Ga. to be with their children and grandchildren.
His wife was Frances A. Betton,daughter of Nathan and Ann Betton of Queen Ann Co., MD, she was born 11/9/1804 and died in Cuthbert, Ga. 7/4/1884, age 79 years 8 months 15 days. Her father was midshipman on the Brandywine, the vessel that carried Gen. La-Fayette back to France.
