I believe the 1850 District 27, Hamilton County, Tennessee Census lists Samuel's family. His father John Acuff, 45; William, 18; Samuel, 15; Eliza, 13 and Rebecca, 11.

The 1860 Dade County, MO Census lists Samuel Acuff, 26, and wife Ann C, 20, with daughter Rebecca J, 7 months. Samuel owns $1,000 in real estate and $350 in personal property.

Samuel S Acuff enrolled May 1, 1864, at Melville (now Dadeville), MO in Company E, 76th MO Mil Cav under Captain Kirby. He died October 19, 1864 from wounds received in action October 16, 1864.

Samuel's fatal wounds occured during the "Fight at Greenfield."
