Mildred Smith Brock, daughter of the late T.L. and Eunice Smith, died on August 8, 2015. Her Fairy tale marriage to James Newman Brock lasted for sixty-six years. They first saw each other while in the first grade. They like each other from then on until their relationship became real and endearing love, which later led to their marriage. Their devotion to each their continued to grow, and they lived an enviable and inseparable life together.

She attended Utica Public School and enrolled at Hinds Jr. College after high school graduation. Later, she won a voice scholarship to Belhaven where she starred in the school operas. After Belhaven, Mildred was employed at Forest Hill School for twenty-three years where she taught voice and piano.

Art was one of her many talents and she put body and soul into it. Her beautiful artwork adorns many of her relatives home for which she would never accept payment. One of her very young nieces could not pronounce her name. The best that she could say was Buie. That name stuck causing many of her relatives to address her always as Buie.

Mildred had a brother, the late Dr. Roy Smith of Durant. She is survived by her husband, J. N. Brock; daughter, Debbie Brock; son, son, Jimmy Brock and wife, Betty; grandson, James Brock; and sister, Imogene Measells; and many nieces and nephews.

Her church is first Presbyterian, Jackson, where visitation will be Tuesday, 9:30 – 11:00, followed immediately by her service. She will be buried in the Utica Cemetery.
